Brief History of the Company

  • Company Incorporated in the year 1919 by seven British Entrepreneurs.
  • Company's name was British India Electric Construction Co. Limited.
  • 1919 - Started as a Tea Garden Machine manufacturer and repairer.
  • 1924 - Electrical Repair Shop was established.
  • 1932 - Biecco Fans launched to aim mass market.
  • 1939 - Pioneered manufacture of Electric motors in India. Biecco Motors  dominated Indian Market
  • 1939-42 - During World War II, Bieccohad to produce Shell Cases, food  containers, Camouflage sets for Military - During post War period, it  was extensively reorganized with upgraded facilities.
  • Early 50s - In collaboration with Johnson & Phillips Ltd., England, Biecco started production of 11 KV Switchboeards in India.
  • 1970 - Name changed to Biecco Lawrie Limited.
  • 1972 - Became a Government Company due to chainholding with Balmer Lawrie and IBP Co. Limited. It is now an independent Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India and also a member of the IBP-Balmer Lawrie-Biecco Lawrie Group of Companies.

New Management Initiatives and Step by Step Development

  • 1991-92 - Visions of Excellence and Mission of the Company were defined
  • 1993-94 - Modernization and upgradation of facilities started which is still continuing
  • 1994-95 - Company has diversified into Petroleum Products and Project activities. In the same year the Computerization and Systematization processes also started. We are the first Indian company to attempt implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning together with Activity Based Costing  with our own resources (without  the help of any outside consultant). The implementation is about to take place.
  • 1996-97 - A modern fully-computerized state-of-the-sart Lube Oil Blending and Filling Plant is in full swing of operation.
  • 1996-97 - A Management Model implemented in the Company where Corporate  Objectives are worked out every year keeping in view the Mission & Visions and Corporate plan of the Company. From Corporate Objectives, Corporate Strategies are derived and  based on Corporate Strategies, Divisional Strategies are derived. From Divisional Strategies,  Departmental Tasks are fixed and finally those becomes the Action Plan for the  individual employee. To adopt transparency, Communication System has been introduced where all Managers and officers meet every fortnightly and their  discussions points yield the agenda that goes to all other employees of  the Company. Process Re-engineering Projects(BPR) are  initiated by all  divisions on a regular basis mainly to eliminate 'No Value-Added' Activities(NVA) in their work processes.
  • 1999-2000 - Accreditated with ISO-9001 certification this year towards our goal to  become World Class in the New Millennium. Our emphasis is on making the Company a 'Learning Organization' to develop Organizational readiness  to adapt to CHANGES and being an INNOVATIVE ORGANIZATION.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) & Activity Based Costing (ABC)

We had taken up ERP development activity in the year 1995-96 with our own resources. The ERP Model shows the links between the core functions and the supporting functions as undertaken by us for our entire model of ERP. Activity Based Costing (ABC) is also our sole effort which is also going to be implemented very soon. Click to see the ABC model developed for our Company
